Ethiopia is associated with devastating famine and food insecurity, yet despite this, the traditional Tigrayan’s diet is a rich knowledge foodscape. Some of the worst famines in the 1980’s were centered in Tigray, yet its foodways strengthen the connection between people, culture, and place. These traditional foodways are imbued with cultural significance and reinforce social fabric by fostering the participation of a broad sector of society.
